  • Summary

    The third official language in Pozdow, although centuries of evolution separates it from  Pozdewk and Pozdowian (which is the official language).

    Cousin language of Eoateuuan, they have the Old Mayessa as a common ancestor. During the 1st century, it was called the Silver dialect. During the 5th century B.C., it was still part of the Proto Monfastian that resulted in Primitive Pozdowic, then the Old Pozdowian (which is the common ancestor to Pozdowian and Pozdewk.)

    Stress informationStress in Mayessa is part of a complex prosody.

    The stress always hits the first syllable starting with a consonant, unless :
    - the word is monosyllabic : then it is stressed anyway ;
    - the last syllable of the word (without coda) contains one of the following letters : k̨, m̨, n̨, s̨, t̨, v̨, ɀ ; in which case it is an oxytone and the prosodic consonant is lengthened.

    Mayessa has a high pitch ruled by prosodic consonants (P) in situations different than #PV.

    Stress may have a grammatical value.

    Mayessan phonology is pretty much allophonic and rather "soft" : there are lots of glides and the most aggressive fricatives are rare (/x r/ being allophonic as well).

    Vowel length can be distinctive, but not consonant length.

    /ɲ ʎ/ are the simplification of /nj lj/, which can be used allophonically.

    There is an important difference between /ç ʝ/ and their retracted counterparts /ç̠ ʝ̠/. Those two last phonemes are getting a velar articulation, or even uvular for the affricates /q͡ç̠ ɢ͡ʝ̠/.
