About Tnaaq
  • Tnaaq is an a priori conlang.
  • It is a VSO language, that behaves as a fluid active-stative language for intransitives and an ergative one for transitives, mostly agglutinative and head marking.
  • It has a small phonological inventory (8 consonants and 4 vowels, no labials D:), but allophony and dialectal variation runs wild.
  • Nouns are marked for definiteness, no cases, gender seldom appears marked. Only deverbal human nouns can mark gender and number consistently.
  • Verbs are conjugated for only the subject, that can have different semantic roles. There are also transitivity/class prefixes that help clarify this role, and modal prefixes.
  • Negation is marked mostly by a suffix, but there's some suppletion.
  • Aspect is marked mostly with reduplicative affixes or with auxiliary verbs, the perfective comes from the verb "come" and the inchoative "go".
  • There is no morphological tense.
  • There are no adjectives, meaning they behave like stative verbs.
  • A growing set of clitics that include person/case, modal, evidentiality, locatives, incorporated nouns... etc. appears in second position.
  • Independent pronouns do not inflect for case, just for person and number. The third person uses the demostratives, that also mark 3 degrees if proximity. Dependent pronouns are second position clitics that do mark case, in the family they are in a process of fusion with the verbs to become affixes.
  • Current is Tnaaq's 5th reincarnation.
  • Tnaaq is supposed to be spoken in Tnaaq, a country of Sahar, and its neighbour, Nousdutu. It is an important regional language of the continent and is deeply influenced by an extinct language of the same family, Harnibian. It ceased to be spoken in daily life except for the main cities of Tnaaq, and there are several norms for speaking it, a "classical" one and a few local varieties influenced by its daughter and sister languages.
