Summary

(ro keru'ku), or Ro Keru'ku /ɾo̞ ke̞ɾuʊ̯ku/ is a language spoken universally across all of the races of man. As stated in the Book of New, it supposedly was a gift from god to allow mankind to willingly speak the "true word" and generate faith for the gods, thus giving humanity the ability to manipulate the forces of existence, notably mana (neca, neca /ne̞ʃa/), and make it "bend to the will of the speaker". And so, humans were able to use magic (naso, naso /naso̞/) for their own needs.

Idenian (or Edenian) is a conlang created for the sole purpose of fully fleshing out the idea of magic in my fantasy writing. I wanted a meaningful, proper language that was spoken to cast magic spells. As such, Idenian isn't really made to be spoken in conversation, but instead, in monologue-type utterances.

Features

  • Oligosynthetic.
  • VSO word order.
  • All syllables contain lexical or grammatical information.
  • Words are formed by combining lexical syllables. (i.e. kuro 'kuro'- "man" is a combination of ku 'ku'- "humanity" and ro 'ro'- "earth".)
  • No standard stress- pronounced however the speaker is comfortable with.
  • Verb lemmas are in the imperative form.
  • Abugida conscript.
  • "Divine language of magic"- primarily used to cast magic spells and give commands.

Syllable StructureStrict CV(C), with only /n̥/ and /t͡s/ being able to be in the coda.
Stress informationStress is considered arbitrary in Idenian as it varies from speaker to speaker (and is usually dependent on the stress rules in an individual speaker's native language), however, the scholars of Wirofo prefer new practitioners to place the stress on the penultimate syllable.
OtherThe phoneme <ń> /n̥/ actually has a varible value. It appears only in the coda, but still affects phonemes directly after it. At the end of a word or before a semivowel, it is realised as [n̥] and devoices the following semivowel, if present. Before any strong vowel (while ignoring /ʔ/ before vowels), it is realised as [n̥ʰ] and devoices the following vowel. Before weak vowel /ə/, the string /n̥ə/ can be variably realised as [n̩̊ ~ n̥ə̥ ~ ə̥̃], with [n̥ə̥] being the most agreed upon. Before /n/ the string /n̥n/ is realised as [n̥:]. Before /m/ the string /n̥m/ is realised as [m̥:].
